Generation Fitness Overview


Southwest Plains Regional Service Center and 9 school districts in southwest Kansas are collaborating in Project GENERATION FITNESS.  
Project GENERATION FITNESS will implement a research-based curriculum in each district and provide training and 
professional development for teachers in an effort to improve student progress toward Kansas state standards in physical education.

        GENERATION FITNESS’S goals are:

1. The percentage of students actively 
   participating in physical education activities
   in GENERATION FITNESS districts will increase

2. The percentage of students in participating 
   schools who make progress toward meeting 
   Kansas state standards for physical education will increase.

3. Parental support of lifelong fitness will increase.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

Year 1—Elementary Level

Year 2—Elementary Level + Intermediate & Middle School

Year 3—Elementary + Intermediate + Middle School + High School

 

 


TYPES OF PROJECTS
Funds may be used to provide equipment and support to enable students to participate 
actively in physical education activities. Funds also may support staff and teacher training and education.

The purpose of this program is to initiate, expand, and improve physical education programs 
(including after-school programs) for kindergarten through 12th grade. 
This program  will increase knowledge and awareness of childhood health 
and decrease the rising obesity rates in America’s youth.
